... --Joshua HIATT, age about 66 years who resides at the home of his sister Mrs. John BOWERMASTER, 609 West Jefferson street, was stricken with paralysis yesterday afternoon. He was taken to the Jefferson County hospital last evening where he remains in a very serious condition. Mr. HIATT has been ill for the past four weeks, prior to the stroke. ...

JOSHUA HIATT DIED HERE TODAY
Suffered A Stroke Last Friday -- Funeral Tomorrow at 2 Oclock

Joshua HIATT, who suffered a stroke of paralysis last Friday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. E. BOWERMASTER, 609 West Jefferson, died this morning at one oclock at the Jefferson County hospital where he has been in a serious condition since stricken.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two oclock from the J. E. BOWERMASTER home in charge of Rev. O. B. Devine of the Free Methodist church. Interment will take place in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. HIATT was born in Keokuk county, Iowa, November 11, 1858. He has lived nearly all his life in Jefferson county. For the past six years he has made his home with his sister, Mrs. BOWERMASTER, who with a daughter is left to mourn his loss.

JOSHUA HIATT FUNERAL HELD HERE YESTERDAY

The funeral services for Joshua HIATT, who died Thursday morning at the Jefferson County hospital following a stroke of paralysis, were held yesterday afternoon at two oclock from the home of his sister, Mrs. J. E. BOWERMASTER, 609 West Jefferson. Rev. O. B. Devine of the Free Methodist church conducted the services. Burial took place in Evergreen cemetery.

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.237. His gravestone notes a birth year of 1857 in contrast with the obituaries' date of 1858. While there were no requirements for birth certificates in Iowa until July, 1880, the birthdate noted on his death certificate is November 11, 1858, and age at death of 64 years, 6 months, 3 days. Joshua was the son of Enoch and Edith McPHERSON HIATT.
