The Davenports of Martinsburg and Lowville, Lewis County NY went west to Davenport Iowa- some people also went to Fond du Lac Wisconsin. I am looking for Stantons that may have went west. My line goes back to Otis J. Stanton born in 1827 son of Jehiel aka Joshua and Rachael Stanton. We can not find information on Jehiel and Rachael but know one daughter went to Red Oak Iowa with her husband. A Joshua Stanton fought here in the War of 1812 and we do find a Joshua in an early census but after the document from the War of 1812 there is nothing to find.
Oral stories say that they have several children, died in a poorhouse and the children were all orphaned - Otis the oldest- and he had sisters we found named Mary and Adeline aka Abbie.
They would have attended we believe, the Methodist Church.
Otis we believe had twin cousins, sons of Isaac Stanton named Edward and Edwin- other cousins recalled their parents speaking of them and referring to them as Ward and Win- they went west to Wisconsin and end up in California and lived to be the oldest living twins of their time as it made some newspaper headlines.
Hoping some day I find more clues to fit the family together-
We also know that some Stantons from VT fought with the Green Mtn Boys in Revolution and one may have been a slave of the Stantons who fought, named Freeman Stanton.
