Tombstone of Lyman S.C. Bailey

BAILEY

Is there anyone in Jasper County who would be willing to look for the grave of Lyman S.C. Bailey in Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville and snap a photo? Specifically, the Ireton (Iowa) Area Historical Society is trying to find out if he has a marker for Civil War veterans showing that he was in the 102nd Illinois Infantry.

In Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, Sioux County, Iowa, there is a tombstone for "Lyman S.C. Bailey, Co. A, 102nd Illinois Infantry". Research indicates that "our" Lyman was really Lyman B. Bailey but so far we haven't found any civil war records on him. We're curious to find out if Lyman S.C. Bailey buried in Jasper County has a marker -- since he died in 1915 and ours died before 1903, we think that the mistaken tombstone may have been discovered when the "real" Lyman S.C. Bailey died.

We would appreciate any help that anyone could give us.

Thanks so much.
