Emma Caroline (Axtell) Newcoomb was born in Morristown, N. J. July 7,. 1817. In her youth she united with the Presbyterian church of that place, and in 1881 she came to Newton, Iowa, and on June 23rd of the same year united in marriage with Silas P. Axtell, by whose death she was let a widow, July 26, 1880. April 9, 1882, she united with the Lutheran church of this city by a letter from the Presbyterian church, of Morristown, N. J. She has always lived a consistent and exemplary Christian life, manifesting a deep interest in the different operations of the church and in the welfare of the unsaved as well.Dec. 1, 1801 she united in marriage with Samuel G. Newcomb who died April 16, 1803. Since then her life though lonely, has ever ben radiant with good cheer and love. After a time of intense suffering she found relief in death on Thursday, 7:30 a.m. , Dec, 31, 1895, aged 48 years, 5 months, and 24 days. The funeral services from the home of Mr. N. K. Skow this 3 p. m.; Rev. Dr. Jacoby officiating.
