May 29, 1984 in the Newton Daily News. Mrs.
Ray (Mary E.) Walker, 89, formerly of 114 N 5th Ave. W., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Sunday evening, May 27, 1984, at the Embassy Manor Care Center, Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wendsday, May 30, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. The Rev. Carlton Christenson, pastor of the 1st Baptist Church, will conduct services. Pocahontas sevices by Sequoia Council 88 will be conducted at the Newton Union Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today, May 29. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to the Pocahontas Lodge may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are two sons, Max of Independence and M.J. Walker of Vacaille, CA; three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Madge) Galbraith of Kellogg and Mrs. W.M. (Harriet) Cupples and Mrs. Beryl (Marjorie Ann) Braley, both of Newton; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Nov. 16, 1974, her parents and a sister in infancy.
She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Sequoia Council 88. Mrs. Walker had been an employee of the Vernon Co. and Newton Telephone Co.
The Daughter of Fred and Ethel Walker Barbee, she was born September 3, 1894 in Newton and was graduated fron Newton Community High School. She resided in the home of her aunt. Harriet Reynolds, in Newton following the death of her parents. She was married October 4, 1915 in Newton, Iowa.
