Roy L Hill, 70, of Hansell, died peacefully at his home on January 10th, 2024.
Visitation and funeral services at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, Hampton, Iowa. Burial in Graham Cemetery, Mingo, Iowa.
Roy Lee Hill was born on November 9th, 1953, in Nevada, Iowa, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Smith) Hill. He graduated from LDF High School in LeGrand with the class of 1972. Roy attended college at DMACC in Ankeny.
Roy was married to Kathy Muhlenbruch on June 29th, 1974. They were the parents of three children. They later divorced.
Roy began his working career with Diamond Vogel and Sherwin Williams managing stores in the Marshalltown and Carroll areas. In 1989 Roy, Kathy, and their children moved to their family farm northwest of Hampton. He farmed for many years and was involved in the Franklin County Pork Producers. Following farming Roy worked primarily in manufacturing and eventually found retirement work enjoyable with Mort's Inc. Roy lived in Hansell for the last eight years.
Roy was an athlete when in school and passed along his love for sports and activities to his kids and grandkids. He was always ready for a game of catch in the yard or a run to the corner and back. Roy loved Hawkeye football, and he enjoyed spending time with friends and family watching the games, most notably a family trip to Florida to watch them play in a bowl game. Many will remember him sitting in his lawn chair over-looking Progress Park during T-Ball games or looking on and cheering loudly during cross-country meets and trap shooting. He loved helping his kids with home renovation projects, taking grandkids to activities, regularly attending band concerts, and was always willing to pitch in and help care for his family and their pets.
Roy had many travels to visit friends and family including a once in a lifetime trip to Norway in 1996 (corn was good that year). He especially enjoyed visiting Arizona, Texas, Washington (AAU Junior Olympics for Kyle's 4x800 team in track), Alaska (he got to meet Santa Claus while Kelly was living in North Pole, Alaska), and Florida (several times to visit family).
He is survived by his children, Robyn (Marcus) Hill-Kofoot, Hampton, Kelly (Larry) Bouchard, Jefferson, and Kyle (Kelsey) Hill, Cedar Falls; four grandchildren Peyton, Max, Parker, and Ivy. Three foreign exchange grandkids, Mohaymen Ghanayem from Libya, Anthony Karanu from Kenya, and Adia Coulibaly from Mali; sister Jean (Loyd) Wills, Haysville, Kansas; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Hill, and sister Nancy.
