Sabula, Iowa, Sept. 4 -- Honorable Thomas Lambert, member of the finance committee of the state board of education, past grand master of the Iowa Masons, former member of the Iowa house and senate and a delegate to the democratic convention in 1888, passed away at his home here at 12:30 Saturday night. He had been severely burned about six weeks ago when a gas stove in his home exploded and had been taken care of by a trained nurse until two weeks ago when she was dismissed. He had been active and was down town about 9 o'clock Friday evening. Saturday morning he was taken ill and passed away from dilation of the heart at 12:30 that evening.
He was born at Sabula, Iowa, February 13, 1855, and was 68 years old at the time of his death. August 1883 he was married to Miss Jennie Cotton.
He was very well known not only here but throughout the state as a man of public affairs. He was formerly the publisher of the Sabula Gazette, taking charge of it in 1880 and publishing it until a few years ago. He was a prominent democrat and a 33rd degree Mason.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the house with the Rev. William R. Phelps of the Methodist church officiating. The Masonic lodge had charge of the services at the grave. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
