RECORD--Mrs. S. S. Germond died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. H. B. Hubbell on Pleasant St., with whom she had made her home for the past twelve years. Sarah Ann Ward was born in Cortland county, New York, May 11, 1822, thus making her 82 years of age. In 1843 she was married to S. S. Germond at Dunkirk, New York. They came west to Jackson county and settled on a farm where they lived for two years. They then moved to Maquoketa where Mr. Germond practiced his profession, that of a lawyer, and held many positions of trust and honor, among them mayor of Maquoketa in 1859-60. He died some twenty-five years ago. There were nine children born from this union of which six survive the father and mother, four daughters and two sons.
