MRS MARY M. LOCKWOOD DIES WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Mrs. Mary M. Lockwood, 78, one of Maquoketa's oldest residents, passed away at 11 o'clock Wednesday evening at the George Dilley home in this city where she had been cared for the past few weeks.

Mary Hainer Lockwood, the daughter of Charlotte Vroman Hainer and Albert Hainer, natives of Canada, was born on the old Hainer farm east of Maquoketa on Nov. 20, 1859. She was the fourth in the family of seven children and in her younger days taught school and could always be counted on to help with her church and neighborhood activities. She was united in marriage to Fred Lockwood, who preceded her in death about 20 years ago. She had no children of her own but made a home for Mr. Lockwood's daughter, Edna, until her marriage when she moved to Casper, Wyoming; and also a niece, Mrs. Cleve Doty of Lincoln, Nebraska, who was brought into the home and has been at her bedside with Mrs. Geo. Dilley and Mrs. Russell Babcock, nieces of Mrs. Lockwood.

She is also survived by a brother, Edward Hainer of Maquoketa, and two sisters, Mrs. Victoria Swaney of Maquoketa and Mrs. Emma Pope of Beloit, Wis., besides a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Buchner chapel with Mrs. Jessie Pulley, member of the First Christian Science church, reading the service. Interment will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery. Pall bearers will be Cliff Tubbs, Leroy Kozak, Charles Porter, Victor Allen, Merle Elrick and Tom Nims.
