Funeral Services Wednesday for Mrs. C. A. Leach

Death has again entered our midst and claimed one of our most highly respected and long time residents of the city, Mrs. C. A. Leach, who for the past five weeks has been suffering with heart trouble and complications. Several weeks ago she was stricken with a severe heart attack and since that time her condition has shown a rapid decline. Sher daughter, Mrs. Clarence Sackrider, and granddaughter, Mrs. John Schumann, have been with her constantly and care for her tenderly during her illness.

Emma J. Woodhurst was born in London, England, January 21, 1850, and passed from this life at her home, 110 Vermont street, on August 7, at the age of 82 years, six months and 15 days. She left England with her parents when six years of age, crossing the ocean in a sailing vessel, and came direct to Maquoketa.

On August 12, 1862, she was united in marriage to Charles A. Leach, and they resided on a farm east of Delmar. In 1885 they moved to Maquoketa and this city has since been her home. Her husband passed away four years ago and since that time her granddaughter, Mrs. John Schumann and her husband have resided with her and helped care for her.

Mrs. Leach has been a true member of the Episcopal church since a young girl, and of Pope Rebekah lodge, attending the meetings of these groups as long as health permitted.

Besides the daughter, Mrs. Helen Sackrider, and granddaughter, Mrs. Jon Schumann, she is survived by one grandson, Wilfred Sackrider; one great-grandson, John Richard Schumann, all of Maquoketa; and two nieces, Mrs. Ray Hempill and Mrs. Chris Grager of Davenport; and one nephew, Wm. Woodhurst of Clinton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock, Wednesday, at Harrison's funeral home, Rev. Horton of Clinton officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Mt. Hope cemetery.
