Debra M. "Debbie" Ekard, 71, of Rockford, Illinois, and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at home.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, September 2, 2022, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.

Debra Mae was born on December 3, 1950 in Rockford, Illinois to George and June Anne (Rose) Gregory. Her father died at a young age and her mother remarried Alvin Nicholson whom she considered her father. She was a graduate of Gilford High School in Rockford, Illinois. She married Robert Ekard in Rockford, Illinois and they had a daughter, Carla. A few years later she had two sons with Garry Elsner, Marc and Greg.

Debra worked in retail for a short time at Photo Mat and for Derby Gas Station. She was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, and working on crossword puzzles.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Carla (Nolan) Martin of Peosta, IA, Marc Elsner of Waverly, IA, and Greg (Nova Tedford) Elsner of Seminole, FL; 3 grandchildren, Meriah, Paxon, and Brennon; and siblings, Barb Camillo of Rockford, IL, Michele (Lenny) Forsell of Rockford, IL, Frank Pouder of Bradenton, FL, and Dennis (Wendy) Gregory of Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, George, June and Alvin, her ex-husband Robert Ekard, Garry Elsner father of Marc and Greg, and a son Craig Ekard.
