James J. Rainbow
Senator from the Thirty-eighth district, was born in Lima, New York, April 24, 1855. His parents, James and Eliza (Goody) Rainbow, both natives of England, came to Iowa City in 1856, and after twelve years moved to a farm in Iowa county, and eight years later going to Pottawattamie county. He attended school at Iowa City until twelve years of age, when 23 attended college at Malvern. He went to normal school at Iowa City, and graduated from the commercial college there in 1881. Engaged in teaching school and after going to Black Hawk county in 1889 continued the teaching with farming. Elected county auditor in 1902, and served eight terms. Married Ida O. Knapp in March, 1889, and has one daughter, Frances Willard. He is a Mason, Odd Fellow, Elk, MOdern Woodman, a member of Commercial club, and a Presbyterian. Elected senator in 1918.
