Howard County Boy Died in France.
The following letter dated Nov. 7th was received by Joseph Chihak on Dec. 6th from Frank A. Havlik, who as his parents were informed by a telegram received Dec. 13th, made the heroic sacrifice of his life for his country’s sake, dying in France of pneumonia Nov. 30th.
He little thought that by the time his letter would reach its destination he would be gone to his Eternal reward.
He answered his country’s call last May, entraining to Camp Dodge and from there departed for France with the 88th Division about the middle of August. He was a kind hearted, industrious young man, who made friends wherever he went. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the whole community.Source: Cresco Plain Dealer Dec. 20, 1918, P4 C4
We are sorry to report the death of Frank Havlik who died of disease in France, Nov. 30th.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Dec. 31, 1894 and is buried in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
