Former Howard County Boy Dies.
Rudolph Kupka, member of Co. F, 134th Infantry, 34th Division died at Camp Dix, N. J., after a week’s illness of pneumonia developing from the epidemic of influenza which has been prevalent in the eastern camps to so great an extent. The body was shipped to Canute Okla., accompanied by a soldier from his regiment, and the funeral was held at the Sheidel Catholic church, services being said by Father Haerenthal and was attended by a large crowd of friends. Rudolph went with the Washita Co. contingent to Camp Cody, New Mexico, and had been in service but three months when he died. He was enroute for overseas when at Camp Dix. He was twenty-six years and three months of age. Rudolph is the second son of Vaclav Kupka, who will be remembered around Protivin and Schley for the last twenty five years. His brother Joseph Kupka and with the Reclamation Conseravation{sic} Dept. of the Quartermaster’s Div. in Co. A 901 Depot, had sailed oversea from Camp Stewart.—Newport News, Va., just before Rudolph died.
He is survived by his father, mother and two brothers who are at home yet both of draft age, James twenty-three years ond{sic} Frank nineteen years. Rudolph was always enthusiastic in his praise for the way Uncle Sam treats his soldiers and was very much interested in his work in the army.
