Mrs. Robert F. Knox
Harriet Jane Everett was born in Romney, West Virginia on March 2, 1834 and departed this life at her home in Jewell April 23rd, 1908. The deceased was the last remaining one of a large family of twelve children. She spent the days of her early childhood at Romney, and in June, 1865, she moved with her parents to Somerford, Ohio. At that place after the war she was united in marriage to Robert F. Knox on March 11, 1868. In March 1870, Mr. and Mrs. Knox moved to Hamilton county, Iowa settling at Lakin's Grove where they made their home for four years with Geo. M. Everett, a brother to Mrs. Knox. They then purchased a small farm a mile and one-half southeast of Jewell and here made their home until this spring when they moved into town to spend the rest of their days in well earned rest.
To Mr. and Mrs. Knox were born five children: Mrs. Frank R. Dalbey of Lincoln township, Mrs. Wm. Anderson, A. W. Knox and M. B. Knox, all of Jewell. All the children survive the mother and all were present at the occasion of the last sad rites with their bereaved father. The fifth child, the oldest on, died in infancy, aged two years, five months. Early in life Mrs. Knox united with the Methodist Episcopal church and throughout her life she lived a consistent, Christian life. She was a good mother and wife and her death, coming suddenly and unexpectedly, is a severe shock to the bereaved father and children. Death came very unexpectedly. For a eek she has been uncommonly well and at dinner table last Thursday was eating and laughing as usual. Suddenly she felt her right hand growing helpless, called out that she was not feelin well, and almost before she could be laid upon the bed had become unconscious, never recovering. Everyone in the community sincerely mourns her loss and extends to the family heartfelt sympathy.
