OBITUARY

Lena Elizabeth Gath was born in Jackson county, Iowa, March 28th, 1876. She moved with her parents to Crawford county, Iowa, in 1881, where they have made their home for the past ten years. To this union there was born one son, June 5th, 1912, Carl Henry Gath.

Mrs. Gath united with the Presbyterian church in 1899 in which church she was a faithful and devoted Christian member. On moving to Jewell she transferred her membership to the Congregational church of this place, in which relation she was always active and earnest, helping in every way she could to promote Christ's Kingdom. Her character was looked upon by the ladies of the church as being a beautiful Christian woman, full of benevolence and goodly deeds.

Mrs. Gath has been under the care of doctors for the last six years, often suffering intensely and again the suffering would subside, but growing constantly worse until she had lost all hope of ever regaining health. She saw nothing but suffering and anguish awaiting her. She brooded over this fact until her mental faculties, strained in the utmost, gave way and she was buried into that mental state that caused her death. She died January 4th, 1919, at the age of 42 years, 11 months and 6 days.

She leaves to mourn the loss, her husband, one son, Carl Henry, seven sisters, one brother, besides a host of friends. She has bone to her reward. The life that she lived among us as a neighbor, a mother, a friend, will always be remembered as full of a true Christian spirit.

The funeral services were held at the residence at 1:30 o'clock p. m., Tuesday, attended by a large concourse of people. The services were conducted by a former pastor, Rev. Wissler, assisted by the present pastor of the Congregational church, Rev. Edw. L. Darley. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
