OBITUARY.

Mrs. Britha Madson, who for the last four years has made her home in Jewell, has now passed away from this world of grief and sorrow into the better land beyond. On the 27th of April 1905, she was attacked by inflammation of the bowels; as soon as this disease was broken, lung fever set in, causing her death. Not all hopes for her recovery were lost before Monday, June 5th, but then the sickness became so serious that death was an inevitable result, and on Tuesday evening, the solemn moment of death occurred.

Mrs. Madson was born in Vi, near Bergen, Norway, November 6, 1843, and on the 18th of April 1809 [sic], she married Andrew Madson. Nine days later they left their mother country to seek their fortune in the new world. The first few months on this continent were spent in Chicago, but believing country life preferable to city life, they moved to Winneshiek county, Iowa. After a stay of two years in Winneshiek county they moved to Hamilton county where they purchased a farm and have since resided. For the last thirty years she has been in poor health, but has, however, during most of this period of time been able to be up and walk around the greater part of the day. She had given birth to three boys and one girl, but two of the boys, the oldest and youngest, have gone before her into eternal rest.

Her loss is keenly felt by both husband and children to whom she has always been a tender and loving wife and mother. Her generosity was such as is very rarely met with, and could not but be appreciated by all who knew her. But while she had a loving heart for her fellow men, the love for her God and Saviour exceed all, and toward the end of her earthly career, she more and more desired to enter the pearly gates and meet the God in whom she so thoroughly believed.
