Death of James Caruth.
James Caruth, one of the old settlers of Hamilton county, died at his home in Ellsworth Saturday afternoon at one o'clock. Before going to Ellsworth to live, Mr. Caruth had resided on a farm in Rose Grove township.
The deceased was 57 years of age and was quite well known over the county, having lived within its confines for many years.
Mr. Caruth had suffered with cancer of the stomach for some time and his death was not unexpected. He had been west in hopes that a change of climate would be beneficial and had taken treatment in Chicago. The aid he received, however, but postponed the inevitable and Saturday the end came. He was a man who was most highly respected in the community where he resided and one whose loss will be keenly felt by all who knew him.
The funeral services were held in the Congregational church in Ellsworth at two o'clock Monday afternoon. Brief services were held at the home at 1:30, attended by the relatives and immediate friends.
The services were conducted by Rev. Seers, of Williams, assisted by Rev. Hjortholm and Rev. Wood, of Ellsworth. Music was furnished by a special choir.
The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful--the pieces presented by the State Bank of Ellsworth and the A. O. U. W. lodge of Jewell being especially handsome.
So large was the crowd in attendance that not more than half could be accommodated in the church. The remains were laid to rest in the Ellsworth cemetery.
