From Jewell Record January 20, 1905 (page 4)

Death of Joe Smith.

Randall, Jan. 19.--Joe Smith, who has been round about this town for seventeen years, fell over dead yesterday at the H. Malone home.

The death of Smith occurred about noon. He was standing in the Malone home and, feeling faint, he asked for a drink of water. It was given him and as he raised it to his lips he pitched forward and fell head-long upon the floor. He gasped heavily and all was over.

Dr. Wilson was summoned at once but to no purpose. Coroner Hall was notified but did not deem it necessary to hold an inquest. The funeral was held today.

So far as known, Smith had no relatives hereabouts. He was a man between 65 and 70 years of age. He had no particular trade but worked through this part of the country during the harvesting seasons. The cause of his demise was heart failure.
