OBITUARY OF GUST MYRE
(Colton, S. D. Courier)
Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 7, for Gust Myre, who passed away August 3, 1941, from a heart ailment. Services were held at the P. P. Valland home at 1:30, and at 2:00 o'clock at the First Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. K. B. Vasler. Vocal solos were rendered by Esther Berdahl and Clifford Lemma. Casket bearers were Floyd Miller, M. T. Whealy, George DeJong, L. C. Selgestad, Andrew Ingalls and Ben Nelson, members of the Henry T. Berdahl Post American Legion, of which Mr. Myre was adjutant at the time of his death.
Military rites were conducted at the Bethania cemetery by the local Legion Post, assisted by members of the Harold Mason Post of Sioux Falls. Members of the Legion Auxiliary attended in a body.
The deceased, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Myre, was born near Radcliffe, Iowa, in 1893. Two years later the family moved to a farm near Story City, Iowa, where he spent the early years of his life. There he received his confirmation instruction and was confirmed by Rev. T. T. Heimarck in the Immanuel Lutheran church.
Later the family moved to Colton, S. D., where he had made his home, with the exception of some years on a farm near Sinai, S. D., and military service during the World war.
On June 26, 1941, he was united in marriage to Beatrice Valland, who he leaves to mourn his passing. He is also survived by three brothers, Peter of Colton, Lars of Garretson, S. D., and Helmer of Oklee, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. Andrew Berge of Colton, Mrs. Henry Olson of Oklee, Mrs. A. J. Henryson of Story City, Iowa, and Mrs. Lawrence Larson of Arlington.T
Those coming from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Helmeer Myre, Mrs. Edwin Hammer and children, all of Oklee, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Henryson and Hazel of Story City, Iowa; Mrs. LuVerne Olson of Jewell, Iowa; Mrs. and Mrs. Lawrence Larson and family of Arlington, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Lars Myre and family, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Olson, Mrs. Martin Thompson and children of Madison, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larson and Bert and Vernon Olson, Mrs. Mathison, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jacobson of Sioux Falls; and Mrs. Angeline Fleming of Chicago, Ill.
