OBITUARY
HERMAN J. HOVE
Herman Jensen Hove was born at Vik, Sogn, Norway, November 26, 1857, and passed away at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Friday June 6, 1941, at the age of 83 years and 5 months.
He came to America in 1879, where he worked as a farm hand the two first years. In 1882 he started farming for himself on the Amdahl homestead six miles west of Randall. In 1883 he bought a farm four miles east of Randall, which has been his home ever since.
November 25, 1881, he wad married to Martha Gurine Eide. This happy family union ended September 24, 1905, when Mrs. Hove passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Hove became the parents of 10 children, of which one had preceded them in death. Those who survive to mourn a dear Christian father are: Ole of Kallispell, Mont., Mrs. Engeborg Friedlundt of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Anna Sevold of Story City, Mrs. Esther Thompson of Rake, John of Arthur, N. Dak., Andrew of Frost, Minn., Minnie Hove of Minneapolis, Minn., Harry on the home farm and Gaylord of Odebolt. He also leaves 29 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The Hove family became members of Elim Lutheran church at Randall in 1887. In this church Mr. Hove served as deacon for many years. In this church he worshipped faithfully for many years until his health failed him, and when he no longer could gather with the rest in the congregation, he was constantly in prayer for the church and its members.
Having found peace with God in his younger years, he lived as a faithful Christian in his home, church and neighborhood. He nourished his soul daily with the word of God and prayer, and thus developed a very clear understanding of the way of salvation. We thank God for what he was for his dear ones and for the church. Blessed be his memory.
Thursday, June 12, he was buried from his home, where a short devotion was held, led by Rev. O. Heidal, and from the Elim church at 2:00 o'clock, where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated. A large attendance was present to pay the last respect to this Christian pioneer. A quartet furnished the singing. Mr. Hove had selected the text for his funeral (John 10:27-29) and also the hymns to be sung. $75.00 was given in his memory to various missions. Six of his grandchildren acted as pall bearers. Interment was made at Mamrelund cemetery. --G. O. P.
