AGED PIONEER DIED AT STANHOPE

Jas. A. Johnston, 91, was a Resident of Boone and Hamilton Counties 81 Years

James Addison Johnston, 91, a resident of Hamilton county since 1879, died at his home in Stanhope Monday morning.

Death was caused by ailments incident to old age. He had been ill the past 12 days.

Funeral Today

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Stanhope Methodist church, preceded by a brief service at the home. The Rev. Weaver, of Kamrar, will officiate.

He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Mattie Kepler of Stanhope, one son, Fred, of Des Moines, one sister, Mrs. H. H. Sample, of Albert City.

He was baptized in the Methodist church and was faithful in his church attendance as long as his health permitted.

James A. Johnston was born July 29, 1849, in Zanesville, O., his parents being Thomas and Mary Ann Johnston. At the age of seven he came to Iowa with his parents, settling on a farm near Blairsburg where they lived for three years.

To Boone County

They then moved to Boone county where he grew to manhood and attended the rural school in the community near his home. March 24, 1874, he was married to Ellen Louise Knight and they farmed in Boone county until 1879, when they purchased a farm in Hamilton county, near Stanhope.

They lived there until 1914, when they retired and moved into Stanhope where they had since lived. Mrs. Johnston died Sept. 22, 1939 and one son died in infancy.

Mr. Johnston was a brother of the late A. C. Johnston of Story City.
