OBITUARY
Obituary of Amos Hovda
Amos Oscar Hovda, son of Andreas and Ragnhild Hovda, was born on his homestead, 3 miles northeast of Randall, on Jan. 12, 1888, and died at the place of his birth Jan. 1, 1937, being almost 49 years old. His parents and half-brother have preceded him in death. Altho Mr. Hovda was never strong in health, he nevertheless continued on his farm until the end. He was bedfast only a few weeks. The immediate cause of his death was tuberculosis.
He has been a member of Elim church at Randall since childhood and was confirmed in the same church Oct. 2, 1902. His classmates were Elmer Swenson, Swen Rasmussen, Joseph Thompson, Hartvig Odson, Nels Sevold, Mathilda Johnson, Betsy Boyd, Marie Larson, Mable Seymour, Inger Hoveland, Selma Walen, Clara Espe, Anna Hove, Josie Hendrickson, Ida Henderson, Hannah Teigland, Alma Okland, Lewis Olson and Embert Millang.
Oct. 30, 1912, he was united in marriage to Martha Thompson of Scott township. To this union were born nine children, as follows, Robert Harris, Donald, Maxine, Margery, James, Alice, Avis and Joan. Mrs. Hovda and these children are left alone in this struggling world. May the Lord be their comfort.
Funeral service was held Sunday, from the home at 1:30 and at Elim Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud. A mixed quartet, Mrs. P. G. Pederson, Mrs. Clarence Larson, J. H. Brekken and S. M. Teigland, sang two songs. The town gave flowers and the Randall ladies aid gave $5 to missions. Friends and relatives also gave a sum of money to missions. Burial was made beside his parents in a cemetery eight miles northeast of Randall.
