Death

Helen Sowers

Helen Sowers, 89, formerly of Story City, passed away Sunday evening, April 25, 1993 at the Evangelical Free Nursing Home in Boone. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Burial will follow in the Mamrelund Cemetery near Randall. Rev. Ray Hampton will officiate the services.

Helen Sowers was born Sept. 17, 1903 near Randall, Iowa to Elling and Anna (Eide) Rognehaugh. She was baptized and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. She married Pearly A. Sowers on Dec. 16, 1925 near Jewell. They farmed south of Jewell for many years. Pearly passed away in 1975 and Helen moved to Story City in 1977.

Survivors include one daughter, Maxine and her husband Richard Buckles of Boone; one son, Robert and his wife, Sharon Sowers of Dexter, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Nancy Bennett of Boone, Julie Karlsrud of Red Wing, Minnesota, Dennis Buckles of Boone, Jolene Goodsell of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, Daniel Sowers of Stewartville, Minnesota, Debra Kuehl of Palm Beach, Florida, Douglas Sowers of Sargent, Minnesota and Duane Sowers of Racine, Minnesota; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters and two brothers.
