April 3, 2023Wilma Taylor, 97, a lifelong resident of Hamilton County passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and those who loved her on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at First Congregational U.C.C. Church, with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Wilma Pauline Graham, daughter of Samuel and Bessie (Crosby) Graham, was born February 26, 1926, in Webster City. She graduated from Lincoln High in Webster City and the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. After graduating, she taught in the Blairsburg Public Schools. On May 18, 1948, Wilma was united in marriage to Harold Marshall Taylor at her parents’ home south of Webster City. As a farm wife, she was a partner with field work, raising hogs and cattle, gardening and managing the farm and family finances. She loved sweets, and was a wonderful baker, baking pies for many local cafes in the early 1960’s. In later years, she was an award-winning sales director for Avon and Princess House Crystal.
Always reading, she also enjoyed quilting, gardening, sewing, playing cards, and belonged to a card group for many years. Wilma was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church for most of her life but was active at the First Congregational U.C.C. during the past 20 years. She volunteered with the Hamilton County Hospital Auxiliary, PEO – Chapter JE and the Piece Makers, (UCC quilting group) in addition to participating with church circles and Sunday School.
She is survived by her children, Beverley Dobney of Vermilion, SD, Kolleen (fiance Art Jenison) Taylor of Webster City, Arlo (Cindia) Taylor of Long Beach, CA, Tracy (Angie) Taylor of Chariton, IA; grandchildren Jayson Kerr Dobney of New York City, NY, Suzanne (Scott) Herbold of Lawton, IA, Nathan (Marisa) Dobney of Las Vegas, NV, Jennifer Dobney (James Wittrock) of Beresford, SD, Patrick McCarville (fiance Tasha Pierce) of Fort Dodge, Anellise Taylor of Long Beach, CA, Eric Taylor stationed in Honolulu, HI, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, Samuel and Bessie; son-in-law, Dan Dobney; brothers, Ralph, Howard, Leslie and Gale Graham in addition to 5 sisters-in-laws, Cleo, Gladys, Helen, Artie and Ella Graham, and nephew David Graham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bertha Bartlett Public Library Foundation in Story City or the First Congregational U.C.C. Church in Webster City.
