Wednesday, November 20, 1991Raymond O. Skilbred, 86, Blairsburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Ariz., following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. William Bentzinger officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Grove Cemetery in rural Williams. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 4 p.m. Friday until service time Saturday.
Raymond Oliver Skilbred, son of Rasmus J. and Olava (Munson) Skilbred, was born May 24, 1905 in Blairsburg. He attended rural schools. He married Julie Nielsen on Nov. 5, 1924 in Webster City. The couple farmed south of Blairsburg and Mr. Skilbred also worked as a seed sales representative. He was preceded in death by his wife in June 1970. He later married Mildred Brown Halleck on Oct. 28, 1972 in Des Moines. The couple farmed south of Blairsburg and spent winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, Blairsburg, two daughters, Delores Bauman, Eagle Grove and Barbara Alfseike, Jewell; three stepchildren, Roger Halleck, Marshalltown; Richard Halleck, Fresno, Calif.; and Bette Hannan, Visalia, Calif.; a grandson; four stepgrandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in infancy and two sisters.
Mr. Skilbred was a member of Rose Grove Lutheran Church, was a former Webster City Elks member, and was a Webster City Moose Lodge member.
