CHURDAN.

Martha C. Harris, daughter of Barney A. and Mary J. Harris was born May 4, 1852, in Randolf [Randolph] county, Indiana, and moved with her parents to Cass county, Iowa in 1869. She united with the Methodist church at the age off 12 years.

She was united in marriage to Wm. C. Peacock Jan. 4, 1871. To this union was born ten children: Lenora Belle, who died in infancy; Olive L. Wood, Adel; Elsie M. Biggs, Jefferson; Will A. Peacock, Churdan; Ira F. Peacock, Spirit Lake; Cloe E. Shriver, Churdan; Elmer Roy Peacock died in infancy; Maud L. Barnes, Churdan; Val R. Peacock, Harris; Alva L. Peacock, Churdan. She leaves to mourn her loss one sister and two brothers, all of Sonora, California. Also twenty-four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. L Barnes May 3, 1923, after a couple of weeks of intense suffering from a stroke of paralysis. Most tender care was given her by her children but could not relieve her suffering and then God took her. She is now enjoying the heavenly rest that God gives His children. She was a kind and devoted mother, a Christian character that could not be questioned.

A member of the W. C. T. U. and loved the work.

Service was held at the M. E. church Sunday afternoon conducted by the pastor Rev. Eller. Jesse Lindsey, of Jefferson sang two solos Crossing the Bar and My Days are in His Hand, which was beautifully rendered, with Mrs. Lulu Furmeister at the piano. The floral tributes were beautiful, a blanket of flowers enveloping the casket.

She was loved and respected by a host of Churdan friends, who wish to express their sympathy to the bereaved in the taking away of their dear mother.
