Page 8RITES AT CHURDAN FOR ALVA PEACOCK
Services were held May 3 at 10 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Churdan. The Rev. Robert Parris, minister of the United Methodist Church, Churdan, officiates. Edward Bangston was the soloist and Richard Carey was organist.
Casket bearers were: Donald Peacock, Dr. Jerry Peacock, Chester Peacock, Harley Wood, Darrell Shriver and William Monthei. Interment was at the Highland Township Cemetery. The Edward English Post No. 198 American Legion of Churdan had the service.
Alva L. Peacock, son of William C. and Martha Harris Peacock, was born May 31, 1895, in Greene County, Iowa, and died at his home in Jefferson, April 29, 1969, at the age of 73 years 10 months and 29 days.
Alva lived most of his life in this area, except for a few years in northwest Iowa. As a young man, he played semi-pro baseball with various clubs in Iowa and devoted several seasons of his life to the game. He maintained an avid interest in this sport all the rest of his years.
Alva was a veteran of World War I and a member of Edward English Legion Post of Churdan. He was honored recently as a fifty-year member.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers: Elmer L., William A., Ira F., and Val R., and three sisters; Mrs. Elsie Biggs, Mrs Chloe Shriver, Mrs Maude Flemming.
Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Olive Wood of Jefferson and several nieces and nephews.
