Jefferson Souvenir - Saturday, May 30, 1896 - THE SOUVENIR is sorry to hear that Ed. Pulliam, who experienced a fearful struggle with an infuriated bull in the Eve Jackson pasture, is much worse than at first reported and fears are entertained that he cannot recover. It is thought that he sustained internal injuries which so easily baffle the best medical skill. He is under the careful attention of Dr's. Young and Enfield.
Jefferson Souvenir - Saturday, June 6, 1896 - DIED — At his home in this city Monday, June 1, 1896, J.E. Pulliam, aged 35 years, 5 months, 31 days.
James Edward Pulliam was born near Tipton, Cedar County Iowa, Jan. 10, 1860. In 1863 he removed to Ohio with his parents and from there he moved to Kansas, where he resided with his parents for 5 years and from there to Jefferson, Greene county, Iowa, where he resided until death.
On the 29th day of October, 1882 he was married to Miss Julia Wyatt to which union were born two children, one boy and one girl.
The circumstances surrounding his last sickness and death are of a very sad nature indeed. He was in the bloom of manhood, and life at his age was the brightest and best. James Pulliam was a man whom to know was to be a warm friend, and all loved him for his kind generous nature, and manly impulses, which always prompted him to deeds noble in their quality. About his home he was loving and thoughtful always taking much interest in the comfort and welfare of those whom God gave in his care to cherish and protect. (online newspaper is hard to read)
The blow falls with crushing force upon the faithful companion who is now left without the staff to lean upon when the battles of life get to near her. The little children too young now to realize their great loss. The aged parents and brothers and sisters feel the loss keenly of one who was always a light upon their pathway.
The funeral took place from the church. Interment was made in the Jefferson cemetery.
