Funeral Services for Dorothy Schilling, 93, of Jefferson will be 10:30 am Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, IA. Visitation will be after 11:00 am Tuesday, at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the Greene County Medical Center and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home.

Dorothy Vivian Winkelman Schilling was born December 17, 1919 in Calhoun County near Lohrville, Iowa to Arthur Daniel Winkelman and Allie Ruth West Winkelman. She passed away January 26, 2013 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 93 years.

Dorothy grew up on a farm near Lohrville, Iowa and attended country school in Reading Township. In 1937, she graduated from Lohrville High School with a normal training certificate. After high school she taught four years in Greene County Rural Schools. She then attended college in Denison, Iowa.

On March 3, 1943 Dorothy was united in marriage to Cecil D. Schilling at the Methodist Parsonage in Churdan, Iowa. They were the parents of 3 children: Kathryn, Larry and Darwin. They moved to a farm near Jefferson, Iowa and lived there until Cecil’s death in December of 1990. In 1991, she moved to Jefferson, Iowa. Dorothy worked at the Greene County Medical Center for 18 years as a Nurse’s Aide.

Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson; the Methodist Church Auxiliary; Margaret Fuller Club; Friendly Club; United Methodist Women; 50 year Rebekah Lodge Member; and participated in Hospice and Respite.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Cecil; her parents Arthur and Allie; and two brothers Paul and Dean. She is survived by her children: Kathryn (Wayne) Rice of Jefferson, IA, Larry (Karen) Schilling of Wellington, KS, and Darwin (Bonnie) Schilling of Wellington, KS; her sister Velma Winkelman of Jefferson, IA; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
