Mrs. A.I. Tarpening was Abbie Irene Smith Tarpening, daughter of Lewis and Permelia Smith.
She was the owner of the Women's Toggery, a ladies ready-to-wear store in Tabor for many years and a friend of my mother. She was married to James Tarpening, they were later divorced. One daughter, Permelia Ruth died at a young age, both she and her mother are buried in the Tabor Cemetery. As a child I spent many happy hours playing at the Women's Toggery and peeping through a hole in the dressing room at the movie playing next door.
To the best of my knowledge there are no close relatives left.
