Marietta Geraldine (Parrish) Beam, age 95, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Accura Healthcare of Stanton, Iowa. To some, she was known as Marietta, others, Geraldine or Gerry. She was born February 27, 1925 in Sidney Township near Riverton, Iowa, the daughter of Ensley and Mary Etta (Barnes) Parrish of Riverton. Gerry went to school and graduated from Sidney High School. She married Arthur Eugene Beam, Sr. on September 23, 1947 in Riverton, Iowa at the United Methodist Church. Over the years, she worked at the Thos. D. Murphy Co. in Red Oak, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, and the Stanton Care Center during and after the time her mother was a resident there. She was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church and a book club, as she was an avid reader. Gerry enjoyed crocheting, making blankets, painting, wallpapering, horses, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother: James Roland “Buck” Parrish; sisters: Jean Slater Jansen; Eilene Nigh; and Betty Bergren; husband: Arthur Eugene Beam, Sr. in August of 1976; and her children: Ceslie Jean Kinser; Arthur Eugene Beam, Jr.; and James Roland Beam. Survivors include her sister-in-law: Connie Josephson of Red Oak, IA; daughters-in-law: Kathy Beam of rural Farragut, IA and Shirley Beam of Littleton, CO; 7 grandchildren: Shelley Gates Van Weelden and husband Vincent; Lisa Correll Grosso and husband Adam; Angela Hunter and husband Rusty; Nicole Ballard and husband Brian; Mike Beam; Jamie Wenger and husband Dan; and Hayley Gardner and husband Cody; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great granddaughters; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Riverton. Visitation with the family will be from 9 AM until 10:30 AM the morning of the funeral at the funeral home.
