Mrs. Sophie E, Koestner, 79, of 539 S. Central avenue, who came to Burlington 73 years ago, died at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis hospital after a lingering illness.
She was born Sept. 23, 1870, in Westfalen, Germany. She was married to Henry Koestner Feb. 10, 1891, in Burlington. One of the original directors of Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank, he died July 2, 1949.
Mrs. Koestner was a member of St. John's Catholic church, St. Francis society and the Alter society.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Herbert Wiemann, Burlington route one; Mrs. Elmer Rauenbuehler, Burlington; and Mrs. John DeVilbiss, West Burlington; a niece, Mrs. Henry Eversmann, Burlington route 2; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic church. These rites will be preceded by a short service at the home at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery. The body will be taken at 1 p.m. Wednesday from Giles funeral home to the Elmer Rauenbuehler residence, 539 S. Central avenue. The rosary will be recited there at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
