Samuel Griffin, born 1806 TN, is in the 1856 Iowa state census in Decatur county, Woodland Township. With him are wife, Mariah/Moriah, born 1808, KY, and children, Margaret, 19, John, 15, Elizabeth, 13, Christopher, 11, Mary M, 9, and Samuel, 5, all born in Pulaski county, Kentucky. According to the census they have lived in Decatur Co, 1 year.
Searching for possible death date and burial place of Mariah/Moriah (Singleton?) Griffin, as she is not listed with them is 1860 Missouri, Grundy, Trenton twp census. Samuel could be buried near her, although he did not die until after 1874 in Missouri. Also in Decatur county, Iowa in 1856 are their son, Singleton Griffin, his wife, Elizabeth Dunn Griffin, and daughter Moriah. (Page 284, line 33-35). Elizabeth is the daughter of Allen and Margaret Dunn, (page 284, line 25), also of Kentucky. Also in Decatur county is Samuel Griffin's sister, Nancy J. (Griffin) Kilburn, wife of Henry Kilburn, also of Pulaski county, Kentucky, and children (page290, lines 10-15).
All of these families were in Missouri, Grundy and Livingston counties from 1860 on.I am sharing this information in hopes that someone is also researching this family. I can find NO connection to, and have no information on, the Samuel A Griffin, son of Reuben Griffin of Illinios, who also lived in Decatur county, Iowa.
I will be happy to exchange information with anyone interested in this Griffin family.Shirley Griffin
