The biographical sketches refer to James and Sarah (Carney) Pasley and their six children:

1. Henry Pasley died in Indiana probably before they moved to Illinois
2. William J. Pasley, born 1833
3. Mary Pasley born about 1839
4. Sylvester Pasley born about 1842
5. Benjamin Pasley born about 1845
The sixth child is not mentioned in the biographical sketches.

James and Sarah Pasley married in Hamilton County, Ohio. Some researchers believe that James is the son of Hugh Pasley (born in Virginia) who moved to Madison County, Kentucky (where James Pasley may have been born) and then on to Hamilton County, Ohio. Hugh Pasley is still living in Hamilton County, Ohio in the 1850 census. This lineage does not appear to be proven, however; Another researcher thinks that James Pasley's father was a William Pasley.
