Goddard, Constance Leon Runyan - 1927-2012

Constance "Connie" Leon Goddard, 85, died June 15, 2012 at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines due to complications from lung cancer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 18 at the First Christian Church in Adel with burial at the Harris Cemetery in Barada, NE at 4 p.m. Monday. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, June 17 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
Connie was born April 7, 1927 in Barada, NE, to Constant "Ward" and Juanita Runyan. She graduated from Shubert High School and went on to attend Peru State Teachers College. November 28, 1946, she married Wilbur "Delane" Goddard in Hiawatha, KS. Connie worked as a teacher in a one room school in rural NE for two years, later as a waitress at Tiny's Horse and Buggy, and a bookkeeper for Delane's business.
Connie was a member of First Christian Church in Adel. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends and family, and playing dominoes. She will be especially remembered for her selflessness, lively spirit, and homemade cooking.
Connie is survived by her daughter, Melody Stittsworth of Apple Valley, MN; granddaughter, Amy (Kristopher) Klitzke of Chaska, MN; sister, Barbara Pratt of Falls City, NE; adopted family, Scott and Susie Flood and children of Cumming, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delane Goddard; parents; brother, Tom Runyan; sister, Janet Sailors; and nephew, Terry Sailors.
Memorials may be directed to the CWF at her church. Connie's family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Dr. Robert Shreck, Dr. Roshan Lewis, Pastor Tony Thurston, close friends Mary Ann Schmiedeskamp and Marilyn O'Neal, and Jim and Marilyn Heikes for their help and support.
