Ruth Ramsey passed away October 4, 2012 in the presence of her loving family. Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday October 8, 2012 at Woodward United Methodist Church.
Ruth was born May 28, 1922 to Will and Anna Vernon in Woodward, Iowa. She graduated from Woodward High School and immediately enrolled in Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. Her first position following graduation was with the Woodward State Hospital and School. She later took an administrative assistant position with the Ordnance Plant in Ankeny. She took time off to raise a family but returned to work as an administrative assistant to the Superintendent for the Woodward-Granger Community School District and held that position for 24 years.
Ruth married Howard Ramsey November 21, 1942 and joined him whenever possible while he was serving his country in the Air Force during World War II.
Ruth and Howard enjoyed many years of golf and were charter members of the Woodward Golf Course. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Woodward and held various offices within the church. She was a member of the Woodward American Legion Auxiliary, enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, and was an avid reader. Ruth also enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her four children, Mike Ramsey of Woodward; Bill Ramsey (Linda) of Lincoln, Nebraska; Sid Ramsey of Des Moines; Mindy Duffy (Jeff) of DeWitt; and former daughter-in-law Janice Ramsey. Also surviving Ruth are grandchildren, Jodi Jamison (Dan), Toby Ramsey (Kristin), Shannon Petersen (Dan), Matt Ramsey (Angie), Jill Erickson (Jay), Jennifer Peters (Doug), Julie Hansen, Kevin Hansen (Erin), Mitch Hansen and sixteen great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard; brother, John Vernon; sister, Dorothy Bryant; grandchild, Mary Ruth Hansen; and great-grandchild, Chloe Ramsey.
A visitation will be held on Sunday October 7, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Woodward United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Woodward United Methodist Church or the Woodward Public Library.
