Robert “B. J.” Janssen, 63, of Woodward died of cancer Wednesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brandt Funeral Home in Woodward. Cremation will follow services. Private family burial of the cremains will be at a later date.
Mr. Janssen was born in Hampton and had lived in Woodward most of his life. He was a retired truck driver with Yellow Freight Co. in Des Moines, an Army veteran and the acting commander for Veterans of Foreign Wars in Madrid. He was an avid deer hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; three sons, Tracy and Troy, both of Woodward, and Tim of West Des Moines; a sister, Lillian Ragsdale of Janesville; four step-sisters, Donna Bryant of Woodward, Sharon Ruth of Park City, Mont., Myrna Barney of Barstow, Calif., and Iva Mahoric of El Paso, Texas; six step-brothers, Earl Creighton of Hubbard, Don Creighton of Pine Valley, Calif., Lyle Creighton of New Brownsville, Texas, Keith Creighton of Ackley, Dean Creighton of Bradford, and jack Creghton of Sweet Home, ore.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home in Woodward, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
