Joseph Daniel Muelhaupt, 72, passed away Friday morning on December 23, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Joe loved everything about living. His greatest passion in life was life itself. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, business leader, friend and patriot, he will most be remembered for his profound impact on all he came to know.
Born on March 1, 1939 in Canton, Ohio to the late Dorothy and Edward Charles Muelhaupt I, he graduated from Roosevelt High School and The University of Nebraska. He was a Captain of the United States Air Force. His career spanned 51 years as Owner of Des Moines Cold Storage.
He is survived by his loving wife, Louise; beloved children, Libby Muelhaupt, Daniel Bartlett Muelhaupt and Heidi Leah (CJ) Muelhaupt - Morton; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Grace, John - Joseph and Caroline Common; sisters, Mary Susan Overbey, Mary Sarah (John) Elliott, Mary Juliet Bliss; and brothers, Edward "Chuck" Charles (Suzy) Muelhaupt II and John Paul (Karen) Muelhaupt. He is preceded in death by son, Aaron Richard Muelhaupt.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Iles Funeral Homes - Dunn's Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Thursday.
A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Augustin Church, 545 42nd St., Des Moines.
