Clarence H. "Book" Bucher, age 95, passed away December 21, 2011, at the Perry Lutheran Home. Clarence was born July 30, 1916, to Peter Bucher and Minnie McCormick Bucher. He was raised in Beckwith, Iowa, and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1934. He and Viola Seley Bucher married in 1939 and celebrated 58 years of marriage before she died in 1997. Clarence served his country during World War II spending one year in Europe and one year in the states.
In 1948, Clarence and Viola moved to Perry along with their three children. Clarence was lucky enough to spend his life doing something he loved. He loved cars and not only sold them, but collected and restored antique cars and has been a member of the Tall Corn Auto Club since 1969. Clarence and Viola spent 19 years wintering in Florida where Clarence continued his hobby of buying, selling and collecting antique cars.
Clarence was an over 50 year member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge #15 of Fairfield, Iowa, and also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry.
Clarence kept many of his antique cars in a building near his home. He got up each morning and went there "to the office" to meet his friends and family who would gather to drink coffee and chat. As a man who loved life and always lived it to the fullest, his sharp wit and friendly smile will be missed by his family, relatives and all of his many friends.
Clarence is survived by two sons, Bob of Panora, Iowa, Jim (Sandy) of Iowa City, Iowa, a daughter, JoAnn Walser (Bob) of Winterset, Iowa, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola, his father Peter Bucher, his mother Minnie McCormick Bucher and his sister, Dorothy Bucher Robinson.
Visitation will be held starting at 10 a.m. until the time of service. The Celebration of Life will be begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Burial will be at the Violet Hill Cemetery.
