Ruth L. Hoy, 92, of Redfield, IA, passed away at Mercy Hospice, Thursday, August 30, 2012 of complications from an abdominal infection.
Services will be held at The Redfield Christian Church on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 2 p.m., with visitation at the Redfield Christian Church on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 2 to 7 p.m., with family present at 4 p.m.
Ruth was born April 11, 1920 in rural Redfield, IA. She was the daughter of Frank and Dell (Webb) DeFord. She graduated from Redfield High School in 1937. Ruth was united in marriage to Irvin L. Hoy on May 11, 1940 in Redfield, IA. She took pleasure in raising her children and worked at the Redfield Rexall Drugstore and Redfield Produce in her early years. Ruth was a member of the Redfield Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, CWF and the Thursday Club. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, annual visits with her niece, Lizzie Cole, from California, taking care of grandchildren, going out to dinner, bingo, dancing, shopping and especially playing cards.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin, her parents, sister, Eileen and brother, Robert DeFord and great-grandson Giovanni Warner.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Bud) Van Houten of Des Moines; two sons, John of Redfield and Jerry (Renee) of Grimes; seven grandchildren, Melinda (Matt) Franklin, Marty (Karie) Van Houten, Chantal (Bill) Manhart, Melissa (Jeff) Garton, Jeni (Tim) Hoy-Warner, Anjanete (Chris) Morin and Jamison (Staci) Hoy; 15 great-grandchildren, Audrey, Ellie and Truman Franklin; Kylie and Kinsey Van Houten; Marisa and Molly Manhart; Marcella, Vanessa and Calvin Garton; Taylor Anne Eaton, Randall, Jenson and Thomas Warner; Lydia and Franklin Morin and one on the way; sister-in-law, Eleanor (John) Martin; brother-in-law, Howard (Pat) Hoy. Ruth will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank Edna Underwood for her generous caregiving and Sheryl and Bud Van Houten for sharing their home with Ruth the past four years.
Memorials contributions may be directed to the Redfield Christian Church.
