OBITUARY OF MRS. MONSON
Anna Landa Monson was born at Halsnoen, Sonhorland, Norway, May 18th, 1839, and passed away at Perry, Iowa, February 19th, 1933 aat an age of 93 years and 9 months. She was one of the seven children of Asbjorn and Kari Landa.
At the age of 18 years she, in company with two sisters and a brother left their native land and came to America, Lisbon, Illinois being their destination. Later Anna moved to Winneshiek county, Iowa, where she in August, 1861 was united in marriage to Peter Monson, a Civil War soldier.
After the war had come to a close they made their home at Ridgeway, Ia. Later they moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where they lived for some time. In 1884 they moved to Iowa, takin up their residence at Perry where she continued to live till death claimed her.
Mrs. Monson was baptized and confirmed in her native land. Her interest in the church never faltered and on taking up her residence in Winneshiek county she joined the Norwegian Lutheran church at Decorah.
Deceased was dearly beloved by a large circle of relatives and friends. Her quiet, deep christian spirit was always an inspiration to her family as well as her friends. Throughout her long, useful lie she always was happy to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her own trials she always met in an uncomplaining way to the last hour of her life.
Five children had preceded her in death. Those who survive her are Mrs. George Barnes of near Alleman; Mrs. August Pilz of Palisade, Minn., and Clara and Eli of Perry. She is also mourned by 16 grand children and 36 great grandchildren.
