Vern Council Died Suddenly

Resident of Perry and Vicinity Entire Life

Vern Council, 63, widely known Perry man and resident of this city and vicinity all of life, died suddenly at his home apartment over the Murray Tire Service shop, Wednesday afternoon shortly before 3 o'clock.

Death was due to an acute attack of heart disease. Mr. Council who for more than 20 years has operated a popcorn stand at the corner of Second and Willis, had gone to the stand to open for the afternoon and shortly after became ill. He told friends he was going home for a while to rest. While lying down the fatal attack occurred.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 in the Workman Funeral home with Warren Hile, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be in the Wolfe Hill cemetery. the body will lie in state at the home.

Mr. Council is survived by his wife the former Celeste White to whom he was married January 11, 1923. His aged mother, who reached her 92nd birthday yesterday, also survives as had made her home with her son for years. One brother, Charles of Harding, Canada, survives as does a sister, Mrs. Wallace Rawson of Perry. Three brothers, Earnest, Ward and James, preceded in death.

Born September 13, 1877 on what was known as the Monroe Fagen farm west of Perry, Mr. Council farmed for many years coming to Perry later to make his residence. He was a member of the Perry Fire Department for 22 years and following an injury while going to a fire when he was thrown from a truck he retired from active service and became an honorary member. His death will be deeply regretted by his many friends in the city.
