RUTH HARRIETT CLAUSON STEHLIK 1901 - 1984

Ruth Harriett Stehlik was born on a farm in Stockholm Township, Crawford County, Iowa, March 12, 1901, the daughter of Alfred J. and Lottie Anderson Clauson. She was raised on the family farm and received her formal education in the Stockholm Township No. 9, rural school. After her schooling she lived at home and helped on the farm. Ruth attended Sunday school and church at the First Baptist Church in Kiron where she was converted at an early age and on August 17, 1913 was baptized and joined the church.

On May 6, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage with John Stehlik of Vail at LeMars, Iowa. They made their home on a farm northwest of Vail until October of 1967 when they retired and moved to Denison. John died January 29, 1973, and Ruth continued to reside in Denison. Since August of 1978, Ruth has resided at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison and it was there her death occurred Thursday morning, May 31, 1984. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 83 years, 2 months, and 19 days.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Kiron where she sang in the choir for many years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Etherl Marie Clauson. She is survived by three sisters, Edith O'Banion of Eventide in Denison, Lillian Stehlik of Vail, and Myrtle Waldemar of Kiron, one niece, and several nephews. Also surviving are a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 1984, at the First Baptist Church in Kiron, with the Rev. Roger Anderson officiating. Comfort in music was provided by Mr. Bueal Hedstrom with Mrs. John W. Larson serving as organist.

Attendants included Francis Stehlik, Wesley Stehlik, Lowell Waldemar, James Waldemar, Larry Waldemar, and Donald Ullrich. Interment was in the Kiron Cemetery at Kiron. A Prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 1, 1984, at the Pfannebecker-Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison. The Pfannebecker-Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
