Thanks for your suggestion on the 1885 Iowa State Census. Unfortunately Clinton Iowa is not included, at least not on the one posted on Ancestry.

I don't know the purpose of the 1887 special Clinton census but that was a great find for me. It was on microfilm but unfortunately I didn't include the source at the time. It listed children both older and younger than the missing twins so at the moment I still think they may have died.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your response.
