There was a Mathias Ales who resided in Sharon township as early as 1854 or so. He was married to Katrina Spoo. I am not related to the Ales family, as far as I know, but my Schmitz family resided with them for a brief time in about 1855, after the Schmitz family arrived from Erie, PA.
