Clinton Co. Insane Asylum

I am interested in finding any information about the Clinton Co. Insane Asylum. According to the 1879 History of Clinton Co., the county began construction of a facility because the State Asylum at Mt. Plesant was no longer accepting patients. It was to be completed in 1879, and the 1880 Census for Washington Township, Clinton Co. lists inmates in an insane asylum (page 5 of the 19). Specifically, I want to find out where the records of the inmates might be found.
