Leonard,
I have been researching Lillian Russell for years
now and have read 2 books about her to find
connections to our family tree. Duet in Diamonds
by John Burke, and another Lillian Russell, a
biography of "America's Beauty" by Armond Fields.
She is a cousin to my grandfather. She made
up the stage name Lillian Russell, because she
didn't want her family to know she was in comedic
opera at first, since she had been trained for opera. The story goes that several names were suggested two were Lillian Anderson and Marion Russell. Helen suggested combining the two names Lillian Russell she liked all the L's. That's it.
Sincerely, Pam Emery
