Delmar, Aug. 19-(Special)-Funeral services for Otis W. Babcock were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in his home at 2 p.m. in the Community Methodist church. The Rev. A. L. Eddy, pastor of the Congregational Church in Maquoketa, officiated.
Pallbearers were W.F. Jones, T. P. Cassin, C.P. Jacobsen, Ocy Taylor, Fred Keeney, and Walter Kershaw of Welton. Burial was in Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery of Welton.
Otis Warfield Babcock, son of James Owen and Almarine Van-Horn Babcock, was born in Bloomfield Township, Aug. 19th, 1862 and spent his childhood on a farm in Welton Township, Clinton County, where he attended country school until 1879 when he attended Maquoketa High School, finishing there in the class of 1883. He later attended college at Milton, Wisconsin and Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls for short periods.
When about 14, he was baptized and jointed the Welton Seventh Day Baptist church, having acted a Sabbath School Teacher, Superintendent and President of the Incorporation.
On March 13th 1886, he married Miss Carrie B. Mullett, who survives. To this union were born two children, a son, Merrill, of Mile City, Montana and a daughter, Grace, who died in 1944.
His mature years were occupied with farming, teaching, and other business enterprises, including the Delmar Journal, and an insurance and real estate office. He had been President of the Delmar Consolidated school board, Councilman Mayor and Justice of the Peace, holding the Latter Office until his death.
Beside the widow and son, he leaves a grandson and a grand-daughter.
