This biography is dated 25 Nov 1939 and is on paper with the heading Citizens Historical Association, Indianapolis. It was found in a binder at the Clinton Public Library.

Charles Allen Armstrong, Vice-President, Curtis Companies, Inc.

Charles Allen Armstrong, b. at Castleton, Vt., Dec. 23, 1884; s of Henry E. and Frances Priscilla (Taft) Armstrong.

Henry E. Armstrong, b at Castleton, Vt., in 1841. His father, Harry Armstrong, a native of Conn., was a farmer. Henry E. Armstrong attended pub. schs., and an academy at Fort Edward, N.Y. His first position was in a dry goods store in Vergennes, Vt., and he subsequently engaged in the same line of work in Burlington, Poultney, and Castleton, all in Vt. He also was an agriculturist. He d. at Castleton, in 1920. His wife, Frances Priscilla (Taft) Armstrong, was b. at Pittsford, Vt., in 1849, and d. at Castleton, in 1930. She was a mem. of the Meth. Ch. Her father was b. in Vt. He was a farmer.

Charles Allen Armstrong, the subject of this sketch, attended grade and high schs. in Castleton, Vt. He was first employed in Clinton, Iowa, in the wholesale and retail sporting goods store, C. E. Armstrong Co. (now C. E. Armstrong & Sons, wholesale hardware dealers). He remained in the employ of that firm 12 years, and then became assoc. with Curtis Companies, Inc. He served as asst. sales manager, after which he was placed in charge of less than carload lot sales for Curtis Brothers & Co. Since 1916, he has been vice-pres. of Curtis Companies, Inc., and also is a mem. of the executive committees of three of the companies controlled by the firm. Mr. Armstrong is pres. and a dir. of C. F. Curtis Co., Inc.; pres and treas. of the Clinton Saddlery Co.; vice-pres. and sec. of the Champion Milling & Grain Co.; and a dir. of the City National Bank. Mr. Armstrong, who is active in civic affairs, is a Republican, and a mem. of the following: Clinton Country Club; U. C. T.; and Clinton Chapter, Citizens Hist. Assn. Mr. Armstrong attends the Presbyn. Ch. His hobby is outdoor sports.

On Feb. 18, 1911, Charles Allen Armstrong married Edith Curtis, who was b. in Clinton, Iowa, in 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong are the parents of 1 child, Jacqueline Nancy, b. Nov. 2, 1915. She graduated from House-in-the-Pines, at Norton, Mass., and was a student at the Goodman Theatre, a division of the Art Institute of Chicago.
